Traveling Golfer Unveils Pa. Golf Capital
As Also the Family Sports Capital
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – (September 4, 2024) – For years Montgomery County (Pa.) has been known as Pennsylvania’s Golf Capital. More golf courses than any other county in this golf-rich state. And more great golf courses.
But now the county has branched out. With thousands of families coming to the area each year to engage in a large variety of organized sports, especially youth sports, the atmosphere has changed. Golf is just one of the many sports activities that have made Montgomery County Pennsylvania’s Family Sports Capital.
“We have always had close to 50 beautiful golf courses in Montgomery County,” explains Rachel Riley, the vice president of marketing for the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. “Now, thanks to the tourism board bringing so many different sports tournaments to our area, it’s really putting us on a national stage of exposure to let folks across the country know just how family friendly we are.”
In addition to its renowned lineup of championship golf, Montgomery County has become a haven for shopping, culinary excellence, fine hotels, family attractions … and sports of every kind. Sports complexes have blossomed throughout the county, attracting soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, baseball, softball and more.
While families have flocked to the area for these activities … and golf … the September episode of the Traveling Golfer shines the spotlight on the total picture. Segments featuring the new Hotel West and Main, the Southern Cross restaurant, the Town Center in Valley Forge, the 100-year-old Elmwood Park Zoo and Conshohocken’s bustling main shopping and dining district are certain to tempt even more visitors to the area.
“I grew up in this area, and everyone loves their home town,” says Traveling Golfer host Tony Leodora. “But the transformation of Montgomery County into one of the great tourism destinations in America has been absolutely amazing. Simply put, it has the best of everything.”
