Rivers Edge GC and the International Club

Featured on August Episode of Traveling Golfer

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – (August 2, 2024) – It may be the Dog Days of August across the country but, on two of the more historic courses in the Greater Myrtle Beach area, these are the Exciting Days of August. That’s because new ownership has injected a lot of energy and new life into these courses.

While they might be at opposite ends of Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand – Rivers Edge, on the banks of the Shallotte River in North Carolina and The International Club, right next to Murrells Inlet, the Seafood Capital of South Carolina – the two courses have a lot in common. They both are under new ownership. They both are undergoing renovations to the golf course and the clubhouse. And they both are building on long-standing quality reputations.

Rivers Edge Golf Club opened in 1999 and was designed by Arnold Palmer. It is situated along the bluffs and tidal marshes of the Shallotte River. The course is a stunning photo opportunity at every turn.

“From Day One it has always been one of my favorite courses in the entire Myrtle Beach area,” says Traveling Golfer show host Tony Leodora. “Palmer’s design elements are flawless and the attention that new ownership has given the property is restoring the course to the hierarchy of the Grand Strand.”

The International Club opened in 2000 and was designed by architect Willard Byrd, whose name is affixed to a number of courses in the Myrtle Beach area. It has always been known as a solid layout, with consistently excellent conditions.

Not only is the golf course undergoing some renovations, but the clubhouse has received a major facelift. It has become a Happy Hour favorite, not only for the golfers but for the many people who live nearby.

“For some unknown reason, it took me a long time to play the International Club,” reports Leodora. “Then in 2012 I finally played the course – making it the 100th golf course that I played in the Greater Myrtle Beach area. I don’t know why I waited so long. It is an architecturally solid layout, one that won’t beat you up. I now recommend it to all who are visiting as the perfect course to begin a golf trip.”
