Amateur Golf Talk LIVE! host Shan Coughlin welcomes Jake Wagner who has brought a very unique membership opportunity to golfers in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas allowing them to play exclusive private golf clubs with PGN Plus, the Professional Golfers Network. Now this is not “professional” as in you have to be a professional to be a part of it, but that two PGA professionals created the concept and has turned it into a successful endeavor. This endeavor is a complimentary membership that gives golfers access to under-utilized tee-times at exclusive private country clubs and golf clubs who choose to participate at rates you won’t believe. This give the player an opportunity to play their bucket list courses, prospect a new course for membership and add variety to their golf game while allowing the club to have another revenue stream and marketing arm for memberships.
Launched just a few months ago, but a labor of love for Jake and his partners for almost two years, PGN Plus is an interactive website that allows members to log in, see available tee times and purchase them. If a member is also a member of a private club already, that membership is verified and he or she is given special pricing on the other courses since these private facilities often offer reciprocal relationships. Jake and his partner have worked very hard to maintain the respect due the private facilities, their members AND the members of the PGN Plus program.
So while Shan worked very hard to find the “catch”, there really is none. If you want to play some very very nice courses that you wouldn’t otherwise have the ability to play in the Philadelphia section of the PGA, you just sign up for the PGN Plus membership (and for this there is no charge), look through the tee times available, pick one and pay for it. You would then show up at the course in plenty of time for your round, check for appropriate rule of that particular club and abide by them, and enjoy yourself fully. With expansion into he New Jersey and Mid-Atlantic sections of the PGA coming in 2015, more and more golfers will be able to enjoy this new service.
As if you needed another reason to play golf, every tee time booked through PGN plus contributes to the Philadelphia PGA’s growth of the game initiative. In addition, look for revenue share opportunities where you bid on tee times and the course will share the revenues with the charity of their choice for that event or promotion. This is a great way to raise money through the game of golf.
