Patrick Wilkenson, General Manager and Head Golf Professional from Black Bear Golf Club, joins host of Tee It Up Grand Strand, Shan Coughlin for the Play Black Bear Golf Club – June 2015 Update. As an update to the last interview, the stolen golf carts have not been found so if someone tries to sell you a golf cart out of North Carolina for real cheap, as Patrick says, call the police. The VIN numbers are hard to find and they can identify them. Also, Patrick’s son Ryan is working with him at the course and looking for employment opportunities in the golf following graduation and that great final golf season at Newberry College. Congratulations again Ryan and best of luck to you in your future!
The big news coming out of Black Bear Golf Club right now is that they are re-sprigging their greens, all of them, including both putting greens and the nursery green. They have just finished spraying them all out and the last day of June they will put the new grass down and in about six weeks, mid-August, the new Champion Bermuda greens will be perfect. Patrick doesn’t hold back, he says dirt to great greens in 6 weeks, just in time for Fall Golf Season. They had redone the greens back in 2006 but it is time again so this was the most reliable option of those available and we are so excited to see it happen for all the golfers playing the course.
So for your fall golf plans, definitely play Black Bear Golf Club, and for multiple rounds, they are part of the East Coast Golf Management PGA 4, 5 and 6 package – ask for it by name. It is one of the best packages available as each golfer receives a $100, a $150 or a $200 gift certificate good at any of the East Coast Golf Properties. What a way to make your golf break all inclusive. You can use those gift certificates for more golf, food and beverage, or merchandise in the golf shops. You can absolutely play the same golf course more than once and you will want to play these brand new champion bermuda greens more than once.
Don’t let the location scare you. The address is Longs, but it is less than 10 miles from the waterway. Hear Patrick tell Shan how he thinks the drive is boring because there is not enough stop lights. Shan thinks it is great to have a chance to breath a bit, to relax, and get ready for a great round. Afterwards sit on their patio, grab a beverage or 4 and take in all the finger lakes and wildlife as there are no homes on this golf course.
