Tom Plankers, Director of Golf at International World Tour is to give the 9-25-14 course update and hole review of hole #8, a replica of the first hole on the National Golf Club of Canada in Woodbridge Ontario.  This 391 yard Par 4 is considered the easiest hole at the National Golf Club, but don’t be fooled.  The 7009 yard, Par 71 has a Course Rating of 76.3 and Slope of 152.  Architects George and Tom Fazio built the reknownly difficult course in 1975 and George Knudson, iconic Canadian Golf Pro was quoted as saying, “If you can play 4 rounds in a row on The National Golf Club at Par or better, you can play “The Tour”.

Click the link below to hear Tom talk with host Shan Coughlin about how the course came to be – out of slow play if you can believe it.  Disillusioned by long rounds, Gil Blechman and his regular 4 -some wanted to have a “good course” to play where they would never have to wait.  So that’s what they created.  This uber private all men’s club has a press release framed and hanging in the club that states, “We intend to accept only as many members as will allow golf play without waiting.”  So there you go.  Some of the other interesting rules of thumb they have include replacing dead trees with a live one of the same size.  This keeps the course perfect at all times, as they want it to be.  Lee Trevino holds the course record, a 67 shot at the Canadian Championship in 1979.

So the great thing about World Tour is that you get to play holes from these exclusive courses fro around the world that the majority of us will never be able to play.  There is Amen Corner from Augusta, two holes from Pinehurst #2 and from St. Andrews, as well as holes from Pine Valley, TPC and others.  There are historical facts on placards on each hole, but if you never look at one, you will know you have played some great golf holes and they mesh very well together. Mr. Mel Graham, the owner and facilitator of all these great replications, selected holes from 6 countries for his masterpiece.  In other words, you will definitely want to include this one on your next trip to Myrtle Beach, or use it as your excuse to visit Myrtle Beach.
