We are 2 weeks away from Thanksgiving as we kick off this weeks edition of The GolfMonger Show.
We start with talking about Bubba Watson’s win at the WGC-HSBC in China. This is probably the least popular WGC event on the schedule. We are not sure how many people were even watching. So what Bubba did was missed by many.
Bubba steps up to the 16th tee with a 2-shot lead and in a way that only Bubba can do, he gave it up and then got the win all in the next 3 holes. Only Bubba Watson can do that. He bogeyed 16, doubled 17, then eagled the 18th hole to get into a playoff with Tim Clark. He then beat Tim Clark on the first playoff hole with a birdie on the 18th hole.
How good is Bubba? Do we consider him a great golfer? Talented? Absolutely. He has that is spades. Consistent? Not even close. If Bubba wants to be considered in the elite golfers he need to get the mental side of the game under control and stop playing “Bubba Golf”. He has a lot of career left. We will just have to watch and see.
Golf.com came out with a list of some of the worst logos and golf courses around the world. We had some fun with this because 3 of the courses are here in the Myrtle Beach area. You may or may not be surprised if you have ever played the courses on this list. Visit golf.com to see the full list.
Phil Mickelson has a new job. He was just named the asst golf coach at Arizona State University. That’s right. Lefty will be “coaching them up” at his alma mater with his younger brother, who is the head coach. Phil won 3 individual national titles and 1 team title while at ASU. Obviously this is an interim position. It will be fun to see what Phil has to say about the experience once he starts playing this season.
Congratulations to Lydia Ko. She won LPGA Rookie of the Year. In doing so she becomes the youngest to ever win this award at the age of 17. We have been talking about this young lady for 2 years now. Man she has a bright future!
Sergio made some interesting comments this week. He said that he feels that his fellow countryman, Miguel Angel Cabrera, may have trouble becoming a Ryder Cup captain someday. What? Why in the world would he say that?
