Sandpiper-Bay-Golf 1

Brett Thomaswick from Sandpiper Bay Country Club joins host Shan Coughlin on this edition of Tee It UP Grand Strand ( TIUGS ) for the Sandpiper Bay Country Clubs February update.  Brett “Mr. Two Star” wears his Nike Two Star golf professional shirt following his Volunteer of the Year shirt in his last interview.  They are looking forward to the First Tee of Brunswick Country speed golf event coming up.  This is a crazy event where you take your score of the 18 hole golf round and add your time to it for your final score.  There are no carts and most people just grab a few clubs.

The Sandpiper Bay golf shop is celebrating March Madness in a couple different ways.  To celebrate March Madness, there are a couple of special events going on.  With the Thursday March 19th Platinum golf event, participants will be able to select their final four.  The person who picks the most final four participants wins free golf.  The shop has a six foot by six foot bracket up where they will be tracking all of the results.  To get in on this action, become a Platinum Golf Member today by visiting Sandpiper Bay or any of the other courses in the program which can be found on their website at:  www.platinumgolfmemership.com    Membership includes a $100 gift card good at any of the golf courses for golf, merchandise or at the snack bars/restaurants.  The one other promotion is with any merchandise sale.  When you buy your merchandise, you shoot for a discount.  Brett has no pick yet for the winner but he likes older programs like Duke, UNC, etc.

Sandpiper_Bay_Golf_3Brett also told Shan there are changes coming to Sandpiper Bay this summer which will include switching several sand bunkers into grass bunkers.  Brett said the more he plays the more he finds himself asking people what they think about bunkers and noticing which ones he tends to end up in.  He did say the first three going will be the three in the center of the dog-leg on the Bay #9 since he routinely hits his tee ball into those.

Future projects include cart path renovations which is just part of normal maintenance.  The good thing about renovations taking place at Sandpiper is that they can work on one nine at a time and don’t have to shut down the course or feel pressure to open up too early.  There is also a bunch of spring merchandise coming in including the new Sketcher line of golf shoes in both mens and ladies being promoted by Matt Kuchar.  They feature the yoga mat texture in the sole.
