It doesn’t get any better than Fall golf in Myrtle Beach. The heat and humidity are on the way out, and the golf courses are in great shape. It’s been a fairly wet summer up and down the coast, and that’s made the superintendents’ job a little easier this year. Although we do not have many courses left with bent grass greens, they suffer the most during the heat. The ones I played in August seemed to fare better this year than in the past. You can bet they will be spectacular in October.

Most of the courses overseed (at least the fairways) beginning in October, so as the bermuda begins to go to sleep the ryegrass takes over and creates those beautiful striped fairways against the dormant rough. The ryegrass really makes the ball sit up nicely, too. If you hate thin lies, you’ll love ryegrass fairways.

Golf in Myrtle Beach has so much to offer. The combination of variety, quality, and value makes this area extremely unique. Within Grand Strand and surrounding areas there are over 100 golf courses from which to choose…none of which require lengthy travel. There are an abundance of accommodations whether you prefer a golf course villa or something on the ocean. The selection of restaurants and entertainment makes evenings after golf simple and easy.

For those who like to combine non-golfing activities with their vacations, fall fishing can be a great addition. There are many offshore charter services here that can take you right to the fish. If you prefer fishing the inland lakes and streams, there are guide services to make that happen as well. Don’t worry about tackle and equipment, most fishing charter and guide services provide everything you need.

If you’ve never been to Myrtle Beach, now is a great time to start. There are plenty of golf package companies who can help with tee times, accommodations, and logistics. Most of the golf directors Myrtle Beach play the courses regularly and can match up your skill level with the right combination of courses to create a fun and enjoyable vacation. If you have been to Myrtle in the past, but have been away for a while, it’s time to head back and catch some of your favorite courses, or some you’ve never played.
