On August 1, 2014 the Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association (MH&LA) joined in TGDs global  marketing initiative to promote golf and other attractions throughout the state.  TGD and MH&LA will work jointly to develop detailed strategies that will feature Mississippi golf courses, hotels, casinos, fishing and other Mississippi tourism related activities. MH&LA will immediately begin participation in TGDs multimedia broadcast platform with a monthly Mississippi Hotel and Lodging radio (and TV) show.

The venture will connect featured Mississippi golf courses and other attractions to the state’s lodging industry by highlighting unique vacation and golf package opportunities. With some of the nation’s finest casinos and fishing along the gulf coast of Mississippi, as well as an abundance of great golf courses, this area offers some unmatched stay and play packages. Inland Mississippi offers even more golf and fishing exclusivity.

Driving to Mississippi attractions from surrounding states is an easy navigation made possible by the interstate highways that intersect the state from north to south and east to west. There are six primary airports throughout the state with regular commercial airline service and a host of reliever and general aviation airports. And then there’s travel by sea and the great Mississippi River. Take your pick, there are plenty of options to make for an interesting trip.

We found roughly 189 golf courses (unofficial tally) in Mississippi scattered throughout the state, and can’t wait to begin visiting them. With clusters of courses around areas like Jackson, Gulfport, Madison, Meridian, Biloxi, Hattiesburg, Olive Branch, Starkville, Brandon, and Canton easy access to accommodations will not be a problem.

Some of the best golf course designers have built courses in Mississippi. Fallen Oak, a Tom Fazio designed 18 hole par 72 course was built exclusively for the guests of the Beau Ravage.  The course is closed for renovations and reopens Labor Day. The Beau Ravage Resort and Casino sits on the gulf at Biloxi. How about that for a golf getaway package? Other courses along the gulf coast have been designed by the familiar names of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Davis Love III, Mark McCumber, and Jerry Pate.

Now for my favorite part…food. The proverbial bow on a Mississippi vacation package would have to be the cuisine. Sure, there’s bountiful seafood and fish along with other assorted worldly culinary treats available to satisfy every palate, but its the cajun/creole and and the southern/soul that has this writer ready to make the trip.

Information about all the great golf and vacation packages through the Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association  is just a click away. We’ve added Mississippi to the Destinations tab here on TheGolfDirector.com, and will begin building out that section of our site immediately.
