This edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand takes us to River Oaks Golf Plantation right in the heart of Myrtle Beach along the Intercoastal Waterway.  We will spend some time with PGA Head Professional, Scott Taylor.

Conveniently located minutes away from just about all hotels in Myrtle Beach and a short 5 minute drive from Myrtle Beach International Airport.  River Oaks is a great stop on the way into town or for that last round before heading back out of town.  Either way golfers will be glad they chose to cross the waterway.

In 1986 this 27-hole facility was designed by Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson.  The classic layout provides a fine golfing experience for all who come to play.  Multiple tee boxes allow golfers of all ages and skill levels to test themselves against the course from a variety of yard ages.

Six years ago, local, renound architect Craig Shriner to renevoate 2 of the 3 nines.  Shriner has worked on courses such as Pine Lakes and Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach.

They removed 5000 trees on the golf course.  The greens were changed over to champion Bermuda grass.  Removed numerous bunkers.  Many of the remaining bunkers were renovated and reshaped.  It is almost like River Oaks became a brand new golf course.

The small undulating greens are reminiscent of the classic golf courses built back in the mid 1980s.  They are probably the very best feature of the golf course.  Golfers need to bring their short game if they want to put a good score on the card for sure.

Whether playing the Bear Course or the Otter Course or the Fox course, golfers are treated to a good test of golf. Each side has tree lined fairways along with challenging par 3s and tempting par 5s.

Now the management is making even more changes at River Oaks.  The back patio, which was already one of the best back porches on the Grand Strand, is getting a make-over.  Currently a roof is being put on the pack patio.  This will become a fantastic place to hangout for a beverage or two after a fun round.
