The International Club of Myrtle Beach is the site of this weeks Tee It Up Grand Strand.  We head down to Murrells Inlet to check in with General Manager/Head Golf Professional, Doug Donner and his staff to see what is happening this month as we move from summertime and get ready for the fall golf season.

This fantastic Willard Byrd designed golf course.  Byrd is known for providing fair golf courses that are great to play no matter the skill level of the golfer.  The course boats nice, white sand in the traps and fairway bunkers.  All of the lakes are fed from an underground stream. It makes the lakes so clear and crisp looking.

International Club has a few well-known holes that are favorites (or not) of many golfers that visit the course.  The 4th hole is known as the  “Hardest short hole in golf”. It is a little over 300 yards from the white tees and just over 350 yards from the back tees.  It has a very tight fairway with out-of-bounds on the right side and trees on the left.  There is water fronting the green.  It is a chance for a long hitter to achieve glory and drive the green and putt for eagle.  It also could lead to a double-bogey just as easy.

The 6th hole is a par 3 that is a tough little hole.  It has a narrow green that is a peninsula.  In addition to that it has bunkers on the back side of the putting surface.  It takes proper club selection and an accurate shot to avoid a big score on a little hole.

What the International Club is really known for is the greens.  The putting surfaces here always run at about an 11 or 12 on the Stimp meter.  They are smooth and fast and will test the mettle of the best putters to be sure.

The practice facility has everything a golfer could want to work on their game or to warm up for a round.  There are practice bunker and a huge driving range that holds 80 golfers.  It is as good a facility as there is in the area.
