In this episode of Tee It Up Grand Strand -the Pearl Golf Course Update, host Shan Coughlin welcomes Mike Benson, Head Golf Professional  to talk about the East and the West Courses, their conditioning and what you, the golfer, can expect should (and you should) choose to play there this winter.

The Pearl EastThe Pearl Golf Club

The Pearl boasts two Dan Maples designed courses that play completely different.  So completely different that they even have different grass on the greens.  The East Course, opened in 1987 and completely renovated in 1999, is a traditional parkland layout among the Carolina Pines ending with a dynamic finish along the Calabash River.  The Mini Verde Bermuda greens roll fast so be sure to look for the “dull” or “shiny” appearance of the blades to read the break.  The West course, also opened in 1987, is a links style layout with lots of open stretches complimented by thick displays of pampas grass.  The L-93 Bentgrass greens are smooth and love the temperate winter weather.  Many tournaments have been played here so while it is definitely a challenge from the tips, five sets of tees make it a lot of fun for players of all abilities.
