This edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand takes us to the International Club Golf Course is Murrells Inlet.  Our host Brian Stefan catches up with head professional and general manager, Doug Donner to talk about golf course condition and summer events.  July is a great time to play the International Club.

The winter season dropped a lot of rain on the entire Grand Strand area and the International Club was not spared.  The golf course superintendent and his staff had a huge task of getting the golf course through the tough conditions.  The spring time was kind to the course.  Good weather and not too much more rain allowed the necessary recovery for the grass and really the course in general.

The golf course went through the annual summer aerification process at the end of the month of June.  The warm summer sun and dry conditions allowed for the aerification to do its job and this Willard Byrd design is in tremendous condition for this time of year.  The fairways are plush.  The rough is thick and the greens are rolling smooth and fast.  A perfect combination of conditions for an outstanding golf experience.

The greens, which are tiff-eagle Bermuda, are always near perfection at the International Club to be sure.  According to Doug, they are as good as he has seen them in his time as head pro.  That is saying something right there.  It is amazing that in the middle of the summer the greens are smooth and fast.  Doug told us that the greens are running at an 11 on the stimp meter.  That is awesome for anytime of year let alone in the heat of the summer season.

The course is in perfect condition and now is the time play this “Hidden Gem” in Murrells Inlet just off of Highway 17 South.  A short drive from downtown Myrtle Beach.  Each hole has five sets of tees.  This allows players to pick the tees that fit their game.  International Club appeals to beginners and low handicappers alike.  No matter what type of player you are this is a golf course that has to be on the list of places to play.
