Today we take some time to visit with our good friend Jay Smith at Prestwick Country Club.  Jay is the Head Golf Professional at Prestwick and has been for as long as we can remember.

We started our visit in our favorite spot at the golf course…the bar.  Prestwick boasts a great clubhouse.  Not only does it sit overlooking both the 9th and 18th holes.

The club features a large banquet room that holds 160 people comfortably.  The best part is that it can be closed off the the regular dining room for the bar area for a private atmosphere.

The main dining and bar area is open and easily accessible for players making the turn and after the round.  It is a great place to sit and have lunch and a few cold beverages after a fun round of golf.

The 9th is a par 5 that curls around the lake into a tightly guarded green surrounded by some deep pot bunkers.  It is a three shot hole for sure and accuracy is the key to the approach.  A properly placed wedge is the only chance at birdie.

The 18th hole is a fine par 4 that runs along the opposite side of the lake with the water on the entire length of the right hand side of the hole.  The green is large and receiving but placement is still important as the undulation will make for a tough putt if golfers leaving the ball on the wrong side of the green.

Prestwick hosts many charity golf events all summer long.  The course is conveniently located between Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach on Hwy 544.  It is just 10 minutes south of the Myrtle Beach International Airport as well.  Jay and his staff provide a first class product that make it fun and easy for local charities to raise money.

Another great feature of Prestwick Country Club is the very large driving range and practice facility.  The driving range provides multiple levels and multiple targets for golfers to work on their swings.  There is also a large putting green right next to the range.  The short game area provides the opportunity to work on chipping as well as bunker shots.

Lessons can be had at Prestwick by the knowledgable staff.  They offer group lessons as well as 1 on 1 sessions.  There is also a junior camp that takes place in the summer.  All lessons can be scheduled in the pro shop.
