Mike-Benson---VoltMike Benson, Head Golf Professional, joins Host Shan Coughlin for this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand for the Play The Pearl Golf Club April 2015 update.  Like many area professionals, he has embraced the Nike Volt color adding a bit more grey and black, making the color POP.  He shows off the clubs, bag, shirt hat and says he loves how the line looks.  It is sure to be a huge hit in golf shops everywhere, especially with Rory McIlroy rocking the color at the Masters and through out the season this year.

As far as the two courses are concerned, Mike says that golf season is officially here as the tall rough is growing in, the dormant areas are greening up and the forecast shows 75 -80 degrees each day.  You will definitely want to book those tee times as soon as possible and The Pearl has made that easier for you with their online booking option.  With two courses that look and play completely different, The Pearl offers a great day of golf whether you play 18 holes or all 36.

If you are a Platinum Card holder, you can still book online and use the promo code “PLATINUM”.  You must show your card upon check in to get the rate to stick, so no using the code without having the membership.  You will definitely want the membership though as it is only $139, you get a $100 gift card, member only rates at 23 different courses, a play 4 get the fifth free option and member only events that have prizes you won’t believe.

The two courses you can play at The Pearl are the East and the West.  The East course is a more traditional Carolinas style layout with mini-verde bermuda greens, tree lined fairways and some water to traverse.  As Mike says, it is not the “bomb and gauge” type course – you have to think a bit.  While it is the best one to play in the hot weather because of the shade the trees provide, it is the more challenging of the two.

The West course is more of a links style course with A1A4 bent grass greens that are “babied” all summer.  Play pearl west overheadis allowed in the mornings and then stopped in the heat of the afternoon due to the heat.  This course has wider fairways, water hazards and plenty of wildlife to see including gators.  Do not pet them – they are real no matter how still they appear.  We promise that no statues have been put out there.  You will have to listen to the interview to understand the emphasis.

Additional renovations are coming to the course and facilities on the course so stay tuned to hear about more updates planned.  To hear this entire interview, click the player above or download the audio file to your smart device for listening on demand.  We appreciate your interaction on The Golf Director and your interest in The Pearl.  Be sure to add it to your next golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
