Sandpiper-Bay-Golf 1Brett Thomaswick, Head Golf Professional from Sandpiper Bay Golf And Country Club joins the host of Tee It Up Grand Strand, Shan Coughlin, for this edition of Play Sandpiper Bay Golf Club – May 2015 Update. Brett is all decked out in his 1st Tee of Brunswick County apparel as their big annual fundraiser is coming up and Sandpiper Bay has a team playing.  The staff at Sandpiper Bay is very involved with this very large chapter of the 1st Tee which is a little surprising considering the size of the county and its population.   Sandpiper Bay offers complimentary tee times to the “Ace Kids”, the 1st Tees more advanced group so they have a place to practice and to play.

In addition to this, June 20th is Junior Golf Day at Sandpiper Bay which offers free clinics for kids on the game, etiquette of the game, and general rules.  Then that afternoon, all participants can go out and play with their parents and the parents aren’t charged anything either.  This is just one way Sandpiper Bay gives back to the community and especially the junior golfers.  Follow Brett and his staff throughout these interviews and at the course for more information throughout the year.

Sandpiper Bay4This summer there are some exciting renovations happening.  Have you ever hit it into a pesky fairway bunker and wished someone would come and wipe it clean.  Well, that’ what is happening to about 25% of the bunkers and the majority are fairway ones.  The first one out – Brett’s nemesis, the bunker on the dog leg  Bay #9.  Plenty of his balls have ended up there and he is adamant that it go.   Sandpiper will also be redoing the cart paths as they are the original and you know what tree roots do to cart paths.  So here’s to a smoother ride at Sandpiper come fall.

Brett tells Shan about two surprises.  The first is that course architect Dan Maples stopped by to say hello, told them he was retired and not doing any more courses and just wanted to visit.  To Brett’s knowledge he had not been back since he designed the Bay course in 2001 (the Sand and Piper were completed in 1987).  Go to their Facebook page to see pictures from his visit.

PGA Golf Vacation Pakcage ImageThe second is that East Coast Golf Management has announced the PGA (Play Golf Again) 6 golf package where you pick any combination of their courses (23 to choose from) and yes you can play Sandpiper Bay multiple times, and you receive a $200 gift card good at any of the courses.  Wow!

Their best rates can be found online at sandpiperbaygolf.com or through GolfNow  if you need something last minute.  To hear this entire interview including a quick story about a can of red paint and an 8 foot alligator, click on the player above or download it to your smart device.  Thank you for interacting with us here at TheGolfDirector.com and for your interest in Play Sandpiper Bay Golf – May 2015 Update.  See you on the fairways.
