Another distraction at Rivers Edge

Another distraction at Rivers Edge

Head Golf Professional Jeff Pianelli joins Host of Tee It Up Grand Strand Shan Coughlin for this edition of Play Rivers Edge Golf Club, the May 2015 Update.  Jeff shares that he is heading back to his roots following the interview as he will be washing golf carts this afternoon because a large part of his staff are participating in a family wedding.  Jeff started his golf career working outside at a course at the bag drop and washing carts where he learned to clean them thoroughly – thank you Frank – so even though he hasn’t done it in a while, he is looking forward to it.  The next time you get in a golf cart at Rivers Edge, look up, and then go thank Mr. Pianeli for your spectacularly clean ride.

The other thing Jeff looks forward to during summer golf season is lunch at the Double Eagle Grill where he says the seafood is “kickin”’ this time of year.  The expansive porch, with it’s views and outdoor fans, provides a great venue in which to enjoy the fish sandwich or crab cakes or both.  It is newly renovated and has plenty of room for your entire group whether 4 or 40.

The course itself is in great shape!  The overseed held as it is supposed to and the Paspalum grass is popping.   As they aerify the first of June, the warm weather will have them healed in no time so you can get out to play Rivers Edge.  By mid June, no one will be able to tell anything was done except great greens keeping.  This conditioning is why they are asked to participate and host so many events throughout the summer.  These include the Calabash Cup, The Relay for Life Golf Tournament, and the Father Son event during Family Golf Week in July.  On top of that, they host their own shootouts on select Saturdays which are open to the public.  Check their website for dates at river18.com.

Located in Shallotte North Carolina, right on the Shallotte River, Rivers Edge is just a short drive from Little River and North Myrtle Beach.  Once you arrive, you will understand what Arnold Palmer meant when he said, upon seeing it for the first time, that the land had the potential to be something remarkable.  It certainly has become that.  GOLF MAGAZINE ranked it among “Top New Courses You Can Play” in 2000 and it again hit their radar in 2008 and 2010 when GM ranked it among “The Best Courses Near You.”
