International Club Golf Course Winter Play

International Golf Club Murrells Inlet SCMild winter allows for excellent playing conditions at the International Club Golf Course in Murrells Inlet South Carolina.  On this edition of Tee It UP Grand Strand, host Shan Coughlin visits the International Club of Myrtle Beach and chats with Doug Donner, vice-president of operations, general manager, and head golf professional about International Club Golf Course winter play. With the new year here, Donner shares with Coughlin some course conditions, winter golf specials and some upcoming events at the International Club in this January update.

With the recent heavy snowfall in the northern states, Coughin said she hopes everyone is safe. However, with temperatures in the 60s, the Grand Strand is the place to be. She encourages those “freezing and dreaming of playing golf” to drive down or book a flight and play at the International Club.  Designed by William Byrd, the International Club features trees, lakes and wetlands, as well as exceptional greens year-round. Standing on the par 5, 18th hole fairway, Coughlin said the course looks like it’s still in great shape. Donner agreed.

“We’ve been lucky. We’ve had a great winter,” Donner said. “The Bermuda is actually still growing out here a little bit.”  With more severe winters here the past two years, Coughlin and Donner are happy with the way this winter has been so far. “This January has been awesome, and we’re just looking for it to get even better,” Coughlin said.

The International Club is located in Murrells Inlet, and while that is not right in the heart of Myrtle Beach, it is only a short distance away. Donner explained that the whole Grand Strand stretches from up almost into Wilmington, NC all the way down to Georgetown. And while there are a lot of town names, everything is in fairly close proximity.

International Club Golf Course“Golf is coming back,” Coughlin said. “People are playing more rounds, remembering how fun it can be. How good it is to be outdoors.”  If golfers are going to be in town in February, they won’t want to miss the upcoming February event taking place at the International Club – Wednesday Shootouts. With a 9 a.m. shotgun, golfers can participate for only $35. They can also have lunch and participate in the 50/50 raffle. This event is open to everyone who wants to play. Golfers can call the pro shop at 843-651-9995 to signing up.

Now is also a good time to take advantage of the Platinum Club Memberships available at the International Club. Offered by East Coast Golf Management, this allows for four rounds of golf, with a fifth round free, averaging at about $30 a round at the International Club. When golfers pay for a membership right now, they’ll also receive a gift card. This is a great way to play the favorite courses along the Grand Strand, while still saving money.  Donner said now International Club Golf Course Winter Play is a great value.

“Enjoy the nice weather that we’re getting ready to have,” Donner said. “I can’t believe it’s wintertime, we’re in a light jacket. Just come out and enjoy it!”
