Legends LogoMatt Amos joins host Shan Coughlin for this edition of Amateur Golf Talk LIVE to talk about Legends Golf and Resort, the only resorts that provides a true all inclusive golf experience.   With each round of golf played at one of their five award winning courses, each player receives a buffet breakfast, lunch from the menu and two draft beers or fountain drinks.  That is all at no extra charge.  Matt also adds that if you stay in the accommodations at the resort, there are even more benefits like a complimentary drink to start your night and unlimited range balls available on their massive well-lit driving range.  The Legends facility is centrally located on Hwy 501 in Myrtle Beach and has the accommodations, the #1 ranked 19th hole, the Elsa Pub, three spectacular courses, including Matt’s favorite of the five and a learning center to sharpen your game.

Legends PicEach course is unique in its own ways.  The par 71 Heathland Course, designed by Tom Doak, is one that will remind you of the British Isles links courses, with holes reminiscent of  St. Andrews, Lahinch and Cruden Bay.  Without tall trees or significant elevation changes, the wind blows constantly providing additional challenge and difficulty on the course.  There are also strategically placed bunkers and lush, deep rough that require creative shots to score well. Rated one of the “Top 10 New Resort Courses in the World” by GOLF Magazine in 1990, Heathland’s design allows players of all ability levels to “step back in time.”   The Moorland course was designed by noted golf architect P. B. Dye and opened for play in 1990. Considered one of the greatest challenges on the East Coast, the large expanses of natural growth, sand, water and waste areas combine with extraordinary undulations and bulkheads to

present a course reminiscent of the PGA West Stadium Course.  Created in the Dye tradition,  this course is definitely a “target” golf course  and can cause golfers to rise to incredible heights on the sculpted terrain and sink to considerable depths in the bunkers.  Moorland received designation as one of the “Top 10 New Courses of 1990,” by Golf Digest.   Parkland, Matt tells Shan, is his favorite because he hasn’t quite figured it out yet.  It is quickly establishing itself as the most exciting course in Myrtle Beach since it offers distinct contrasts to the first two Legends courses.  Parkland has contoured tree-lined fairways, vast natural areas, deep-faced bunkers and massive, multi-level greens.  This course opened for play in October 1992 and is modeled after the style of architects Alister MacKenzie, (Augusta National) and George Thomas (Riviera Country Club).  The other two courses in the Legends Group are Oyster Bay on the north end of the Grand Strand and The Heritage Club in the Low Country south end.  Be sure to check out their information and information on golf packages and specials on the website legendsgolf.com.
