The Round Table

There was a wide area of discussion on TGD Today this morning. For the Round Table, hosts George Honeycutt and Hugh Royer III talk about the second round of Q-School, the pressures, difficulties, and opportunities the players face. HR3’s experience having navigated Q-School in the lends a unique perspective on just how tough it is to get through each round. In today’s Q-School players are attempting to get onto the Web.com tour, a significantly different situation than in years past.

Tech Talk

On Tech Talk, host Al Cloyd talks about winter equipment preparation and the some of the problems caused by leaving your clubs in a hot car all summer, and a cold car all winter. Keeping equipment in a more consistent and moderately controlled temperature prevents the expansion and contraction caused by temperature swings…which can cause heads to come off clubs and a variety of other issues. When discussing how temperature affects golf balls, there was some disagreement among the hosts. When Honeycutt suggested the use of Hot Hands hand warmers conveniently tucked into the same pocket as your golf balls could keep the balls warm and performing better than cold one, HR3 took exception. Now, having produces the Godfather’s shows for the past 2 years, I know that he knew this was illegal, but was putting it out there to get an argument going with HR3. It worked. HR3 did, however, explain that warming golf balls up prior to getting to the course is allowed. Warming them during the round is not and is grounds for disqualification. As a side note, a listener posted this question on the Rules of Golf Forum for clarification fromm Rules of Golf host, Martyn Woodhouse. Martyn covered the ruling in his show HERE.

Pro Golf Talk

The completion of the European Tour’s season at the DP World Championship in Dubai was the main topic for Pro Golf Talk. The broadcast team all agreed that Rory McIlroy’s position as number one in the world is in tact, especially after his Thursday morning start birdieing 4 of the first 6 holes with apparent ease.

The broadcast team was split on their predictions for the LPGA CME Group Tour championship. Royer and cloyd picked Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park respectively, but the Godfather went out on a limb and picked rookie New Zealander, Lydia Ko. Though he had to endure a a rash of criticism from Royer, he stuck to his guns, stating this young lady is the real deal.
