Brett Thomaswick, Head Golf Professional from Sandpiper Bay Golf Course joins host Shan Coughlin on Tee It Up Grand Strand to talk about the course, PGA Certification and much more.  Sandpiper Bay is located just 20 minutes from Myrtle Beach in Sunset Beach North Carolina.  With three nines, friendly staff and challenging yet changing playable layouts, you won’t be disappointed.  Going from one nine to another, you play through the Carolina Pines, into lush, water and wildlife filled holes, into a more open and traditional looking layout.  And with very affordable rates for visitors, especially for Platinum Card Members (available to everyone) and their club membership options, there is no wonder why so many locals call Sandpiper Bay their home course.

The staff at Sandpiper Bay is incredibly knowledgeable as well.  Brett tells Shan about the some of the PGA education opportunities he has sandpiper bay 300taken advantage of and the path he will continue on.  Brett graduated from the Golf Academy of America here in Myrtle Beach and continued with his education in the PGA Program.  To achieve your Class A, it takes a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 years which includes a pre-certification exam, playing ability test, 3 levels of classwork, practicums and exams and a final interview.  Once a Class A Professional of the PGA, there is annual continuing education requirements and for those who chose, a program to get a 2 Star certification which takes about a year and includes a 10 page paper and exam.  Professionals can then continue to 4 star and Master PGA Professional status.  To top all of that, Brett is the recipient of the 2014 Brunswick County Golf Course Volunteer of the Year Award.  The Brunswick County First Tee program is one of the largest in the country due to the hard work of that organization and golf professionals like Brett.
