Number 18 green at Rivers Edge

Shan Coughlin joins Jeff Pianelli on the fifth hole at Rivers Edge Golf Course to talk about renovations, fall golf and some great specials on this edition of Tee It Up Grand Strand.  Located in Shallotte, N.C., the par 72 golf course is only a short 25-minute drive from the Little River area and only about 12 minutes from partner course Crow Creek Golf Club in Calabash. Despite its North Carolina address, the course is still near the Grand Strand and all the neighboring towns along the coastline.  Standing in front of the clubhouse on the fifth hole, Coughlin and Pianelli discuss the beautiful deck and the great view of the 18th green. Pianelli said many people sit on the deck following their rounds and enjoy the theater finish of the 18th green, and sometimes make wagers on golfers they don’t even know, or just enjoy the view of the river.

Another great view at Rivers Edge Golf Course is of the newly renovated greens.  The greens now feature a Sunday UltraDwarf Bermudagrass. Since the greens are not in the  dormancy stage yet, they are still 100 percent healthy and offer a very true roll. Pianelli said it’s not that they hated the paspalum grass, it just wasn’t a good fit for Rivers Edge. “It’s just by far the best thing we could’ve done here. It ties the whole experience together,” he said.   Pianelli continued to explain to Coughlin that the greens are rolling at around a 10 right now. During this high season, as long as the greens roll true, everyone overall will be happy with that. The new Sunday UltraDwarf grass will also give Rivers Edge Golf Course playability the whole year, and carry it through the winter.

rivers edge 2In preparation for winter golf, the pro shop is stocked with fall apparel and according to Coughlin, it was packed with shoppers. With fall golf season in full swing, golfers are gearing up for winter. Rivers Edge Golf Course is in a perfect location, as it experiences great weather all year round.  Coughlin pointed out that golfers can look forward to Rivers Edge being less crowded and less expensive during the winter.  “Yes, the price is definitely something that most appreciate in the winter months. We look at that as if it’s too cold for most to play and you still love golf enough to be out here, we’re going to take it easy on you as far as the rate goes,” Pianelli explained. “We do offer winter monthly memberships and we’ll have more information on the website as we get closer to November. Right now, it’s just been awesome. You’re looking at 60 degree, 70 degree days. Wind’s blowing; sun’s out,” he said.

The great weather and new greens make Rivers Edge Golf Course the perfect location to take advantage of the PGA 4-, 5- & 6-round packages offered by East Coast Golf Management. With the PGA packages, golfers receive gift cards of up to $200, which can be used on replays, food and beverage, apparel and more! Pianelli has even seen golfers set up mini tournaments within their group and wager with the gift cards. Rivers Edge Golf Course is included in the package’s featured locations, where golfers will be able to experience the brand new Sunday Ultradwarf Bermuda greens for themselves.
