Tee It Up Grand Strand host Shan Coughlin welcomes PGA Professional and General Manager Bill Hulett for the Play Possum Trot Golf Club April 2014 Glens Group Update. Possum Trot, known as the friendliest course at the beach, is one of the oldest courses along the strand. While some may not be too sure about the name, many come back year after year to play it. Located right in the heart of North Myrtle Beach, Possum Trot is easy to find as it sits right on Highway 17. With the second largest practice facility on the Grand Strand, many come to Possum Trot just to work on their game. The practice facility has Hugh Royer III teaching and Al “Dr. Grind” Cloyd, master club maker, there to help with everything you might need or want out of your golf game and equipment.

To say he knows this course is to make a huge understatement. With well over 20 years experience at “The Trot”, he knows every inch of grass on the course and keeps it in tip top shape. You will also hear them talk about the playability of the course. While it is a very friendly and older course, it is also a fair yet challenging one. From the tips it gets pretty lengthy, but play the appropriate tees and you will enjoy the round immensely.
Possum Trot is a traditional, straightforward Carolina Style design of tree lined fairways, ponds and green-side bunkers around large undulating greens. For an interesting twist, each hole is uniquely named to provide additional enjoyment as you play. “Analysis is Paralysis”, “Little Possum”, “Big Possum”, and “T’aint Easy” are just a few that are sure to spark a bit of laughter. Possum Trot’s finishing hole, #18 (a.k.a. “Oh, No”), is a great way to finish your round. This par 5 closes within view of the clubhouse and the fountain pond. Long hitters have to work against the prevailing ocean breeze, an uphill fairway and guardian water hazard water to get on in two. Birdie this one and enjoy a beer or soda on the house. They have given out very few.
