This week’s show is done remote from my office in my crow’s nest.
Ryan Moore wins the CIMB Classic. For the second straight year, Ryan Moore beat out Gary Woodland at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. The difference this year was that Moore’s 5-under 67 on Sunday gave him a 3 shot win. Last year the two needed extra holes to determine the winner.
The ReMax World Long Drive Championships were held in Las Vegas and the margin of victory could not have been much closer than it was this year. Jeff Flagg’s 365-yard drive measured exactly 13 inches farther than Jeff Crittenden’s. 13 inches!!! Wow!
The amazing thing is that Crittenden got a taste of his own medicine, so to speak. In the quarterfinals and semifinals he advanced by one yard each time. First, he beat Matt Hanger by a yard in the quarterfinals (369-368), then in the semis, he actually won by the same margin (357-356) against tournament favorite Joe Miller.
In the championship round Jeff Flagg, a former minor league baseball player in the New York Mets farm system won his 1st Re/Max World Title. The result produced the closest finish in the 19-year history of the Re/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
Stevie Williams stepped down as Adam Scott’s caddie recently. Now the question is who does Adam Scott get to caddie now? This is not a normal situation. Normally, it is the player’s decision to relieve the caddie of his duties. So what will Scott do? Maybe he will hold tryout? Maybe we will see a reality show on Golf Channel “Who’s Adam’s Caddie?” We will see.
We know one guy that thinks he will be perfect for Adam Scott. Tim Gaestel, as US Army wounded veteran. Currently he is an asst. high school golf coach. His passion for the game of golf is incredible. Most inspiring interview we have ever done. Good Luck Tim! We are pulling for you.
It is amazing how players can improve their position in the Official World Golf Rankings without even playing. Dustin Johnson, who is sitting out for 6 month for personal reasons, has moved up 3 spots in the latest OWGR without playing at all. No wonder nobody understands how that system works!
Finally, Ryder Cup star, Patrick Reed made a boo-boo at the WGC-HSBC this week. He used an expletive and a gay slur all in the same sentence after missing a short putt. Yikes! In today’s media world you cannot get away with making comments like that. Someone is always listening.
