Did you know that T he Committee to Honor America’s Veterans is a group of residents of Brunswick County dedicated to constructing a Veterans’ Memorial in our region. Some of you have served our country while others are citizens who support our veterans. Their vision is to build a memorial for Brunswick County — one brick at a time — in the Sunset Beach Town Park on land donated by the Town of Sunset Beach. The memorial will be in an idyllic setting in the Park overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. It will commemorate and properly recognize our Veterans — past, present, and future — for their contributions to the protection of our nation and its citizens, as well as the preservation of freedom throughout the world. We see the memorial as a serene and dignified place where veterans and civic organizations may hold ceremonies and where individuals may come and reflect.

To raise money, and their motto is “One Brick at a Time”, they are having a golf tournament Wednesday October 8th at Brick Landing. Cost for the event is $100 and includes Captain’s Choice format golf, Cart fee, boxed lunch, dinner, goodie bag and chances to win great prizes.  There is also a live auction including a 2-night stay at the Greenbrier resort, a golf package for 4 people, 50/50 raffle, silent auction with many unique items.   Prizes will be awarded for the putting contest, closest to the pin, longest drive, closest to the line and if you happen to get your first (or 2nd, etc.) hole-in-one, you’ll go home with a free 2-year lease on a Mercedes C Class or BMW 3 Series (Winner pays tax and tags only).

The schedule is as follows:

Registration: 9-10:30 a.m.
Shotgun Start: 11:00 a.m.
Cash Bar: 4:00 p.m.
Dinner: 5:00 p.m.

So come out and support this great tournament for this great cause.  If you can’t make the tournament, you can still contribute to the event in one of the following three ways:

2)  Make a Donation:  All donations are gratefully accepted and are tax deductible. We rely upon the good will and support of all citizens to help us build a memorial honoring those who serve. Your donation will be listed on the Memorial Web Site.
